REVIEW PROCESS

Peer Review Model
Hierophany: Journal of Islamic Religious Education implements a double-blind (double-anonymous) peer review process to ensure the quality, originality, and academic integrity of all published articles. In this review model, the identities of both authors and reviewers are concealed throughout the entire review process.

Initial Editorial Screening
All submitted manuscripts are first evaluated by the editorial team to assess their alignment with the journal’s focus and scope, compliance with the author guidelines, and adherence to basic academic and ethical standards. Manuscripts that do not meet these requirements may be rejected at this stage without external review.

Double-Blind Peer Review
Manuscripts that pass the initial editorial screening are forwarded to at least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise in Islamic religious education. Both reviewers and authors remain anonymous to each other to minimize bias and ensure an objective and fair evaluation.
Reviewers are requested to assess the manuscript based on, but not limited to, the following criteria:

  • Originality and contribution to Islamic educational research

  • Relevance to Islamic education perspectives

  • Theoretical framework and methodological rigor

  • Clarity, coherence, and quality of analysis and argumentation

  • Use of relevant, current, and credible scholarly references

Review Decisions
Based on the reviewers’ recommendations, the editor will make one of the following decisions:

  • Accept without revision

  • Accept with minor revisions

  • Accept with major revisions

  • Reject
Authors are required to revise their manuscripts in accordance with the reviewers’ comments and submit the revised version within the specified timeframe.

Final Decision
The final decision regarding manuscript acceptance is made by the Editor-in-Chief or the designated Section Editor, taking into account the reviewers’ reports and the quality of the revised manuscript.

Confidentiality and Publication Ethics
All manuscripts and review reports are treated as confidential documents. Reviewers are expected to comply with ethical standards of peer review and to declare any potential conflicts of interest. Hierophany adheres to the principles and best practices of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) in managing the peer review and publication process.
