PLAGIARISM POLICY

Plagiarism Policy
Hierophany: Journal of Islamic Religious Education upholds a strict policy against plagiarism to maintain academic integrity and scholarly credibility. The editorial board enforces clear and transparent measures to prevent and address plagiarism in all submitted manuscripts.

All manuscripts submitted to Hierophany are screened for originality using plagiarism detection software (e.g., Turnitin). The journal applies a maximum similarity threshold of 20%, excluding references, quotations, and commonly used phrases. Manuscripts that exceed this threshold will be returned to the authors for revision or rejected, depending on the severity of the similarity.

Levels of Plagiarism and Sanctions
To ensure fairness and consistency, Hierophany categorizes plagiarism into the following levels:

1. Minor Plagiarism
Limited textual overlap that does not involve substantial ideas, data, or findings, and is typically due to inadequate citation or paraphrasing.

Sanction:
Authors will receive a formal warning and are required to revise the manuscript with proper citation and paraphrasing before further consideration.

2. Intermediate Plagiarism
Substantial uncredited use of text, ideas, or content from other sources, indicating a breach of academic ethics.

Sanction:
The manuscript will be rejected, and the author(s) will be prohibited from submitting manuscripts to Hierophany for one (1) year.

3. Severe Plagiarism
Extensive plagiarism involving the appropriation of original ideas, data, or research findings of others.

Sanction:
The manuscript will be rejected, and the author(s) will be banned from submitting manuscripts to Hierophany for five (5) years. Further actions may be taken in accordance with COPE guidelines, including notification of the authors’ affiliated institutions if deemed necessary.

Author Responsibility
All listed authors share collective responsibility for the integrity and originality of the submitted manuscript and are equally subject to the sanctions outlined in this policy and the journal’s publication ethics.
